Happy 8th Birthday iPod!
Ok - I know I’m a big loser for celebrating the birthday of a gadget, but it’s such a marvellous piece of technology.
I had a first generation iPod as a hand me down back in 2003 and I loved it. It had a massive 5GB capacity. You could transfer songs blazingly fast across the firewire. And the revolutionary interface. The first generation was the only one to have the physical scroll wheel that you could use to spin through your music. I managed to pick one up a year ago from someone who thought it was broken. Fortunately they were wrong and it just needed a charge.
So, that little device, launched in 2001 proved that you don’t need to be the first to market with a product, you simply need to be the best. Since then the iPod has been the standard by which all other portable music players have been judged. I wonder what I’ll be using to listen to my music in 2016…
